Published by William Heinimann, London; 1907. 4to. This exceptional book is a Deluxe LImited Edition (hand numbered 261/1130) illustrated by Arthur Rackham, and the First Edition with these illustrations. Unusually for him, Arthur Rackham did not sign any of the Alice in Wonderland limited editions as he was out of the country at the time of their preparation. There are 13 tipped-in colour plates, and all are present and in Fine condition, each with it’s own captioned tissue guard. This beautiful book is square and tightly bound and is in Near FIne condition. There is some minor bumping to the spine ends and corners and some mild rubbing to the boards, with slight mark to the top front edge and a couple to the rear. There also appears to be a small ink line to the rear board, otherwise they are clean and still bright, bound in the publisher’s original white cloth boards with the lovely gold gilt detailing and lettering to the front and spine. Internally, there is toning to both free endpapers, but apart from this there are only a few pages that have any spotting or signs of ageing and the pages are amazingly clear and bright for a book of this age. Overall this is an exceptional book in beautiful condition, rarely found these days, and would make the perfect gift or the ideal addition to any literary or Rackham book collection.
