Published by William Heinneman, London; 1912. Deluxe Edition, this copy is number 630 of 1450, signed by Arthur Rackham. It is tightly bound in original vellum, with gold gilt detailing to the front board and spine. This beautiful book of Aesop’s Fables is in Near Fine condition. The cream boards have some spotting, predominantly to the top edge and to the spine and there is some very slight rubbing, otherwise they are lovely and bright and free from damage and blemished. Internally, there is some spotting to the inside of the boards and the free endpapers, but the rest of the pages are beautifully clean, bright and, apart from the odd age spot, free from marks or damage. All 13 colour plates are present and in stunning condition, bright and intricate in their detail. It is also adorned with numerous black and white illustrations, depicting scenes from the fables.

Originally penned between 620 and 560 BC by Aesop, the morals of the fables are still very relevant today and are enjoyed by readers of all ages. Arthur Rackham’s illustrated version of Aesop’s Fables was originally released in 1912 in time for the christmas season and rivalled the commercial sales he enjoyed with “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens”.

This beautiful copy is an excellent example of Arthur Rackham’s masterfully illustrated version of this famous and timeless book and would be the ideal complement to any rare book collection. Published by William Heinimann, London; 1907. 4to. This exceptional book is a Deluxe LImited Edition (hand numbered 261/1130) illustrated by Arthur Rackham, and the First Edition with these illustrations. Unusually for him, Arthur Rackham did not sign any of the Alice in Wonderland limited editions as he was out of the country at the time of their preparation. There are 13 tipped-in colour plates, and all are present and in Fine condition, each with it’s own captioned tissue guard. This beautiful book is square and tightly bound and is in Near FIne condition. There is some minor bumping to the spine ends and corners and some mild rubbing to the boards, with slight mark to the top front edge and a couple to the rear. There also appears to be a small ink line to the rear board, otherwise they are clean and still bright, bound in the publisher’s original white cloth boards with the lovely gold gilt detailing and lettering to the front and spine. Internally, there is toning to both free endpapers, but apart from this there are only a few pages that have any spotting or signs of ageing and the pages are amazingly clear and bright for a book of this age. Overall this is an exceptional book in beautiful condition, rarely found these days, and would make the perfect gift or the ideal addition to any literary or Rackham book collection. Please do contact us if you have any queries regarding this stunning book.
