Published by Michael Joseph, London; 1958. 8vo. Fine/ Near Fine. This lovely First Edition from the popular Hornblower series by C. S. Forester is in Fine condition. Tightly bound in it’s original navy cloth boards with gold gilt lettering to the spine. The boards are clean, free from damage or signs of wear and in excellent condition. Inside, there are some pencil notations to the front free endpaper from a previous owner, most likley a bookseller. Apart from this, the pages are clean and bright and free from any blemishes or damage, with just the slightest hint of toning from age to the extreme edges of the pages. This is a lovely copy of this first edition.
The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition. There is some minor rubbing and chipping to the edges of the jacket, with some mild rubbing the spine edges and where it wraparounds the book. The spine has some slight sunning to it nad there is the odd spot of toning or marking to the front and rear panels. The jacket is in better condition than the description suggests, please see all photos to confirm how lovely this copy and its jacket are.
Overall, this is a very nice copy of this first edition of the 9th Hornblower book from the popular series, which was televised in the 1990’s starring Ioan Gruffudd and Robert Lindsay among other popular actors.
